Taproom Manager

We pride ourselves on providing the best taproom experience in Frederick.  As such, the Taproom Manager is critical to Idiom Brewing Co.’s continued growth and success.  The satisfaction of our guests is the primary and over-arching priority for this role.  Our taproom operation includes multiple bars and multiple spaces for events of all types and sizes, including live music, private events (such as rehearsal dinners, weddings, etc).

This position will supervise all areas of the Idiom Brewing Co. taproom as well as work closely with Marketing and Production staff.  Additionally, the Taproom Manager acts as the Events Coordinator and has a responsibility for managing and generating private events as well as company-sponsored events big and small. 

The Taproom Manager will supervise staff working in the taproom, as well as work with the brewery production team to manage inventory.  They also manage bartender, kitchen and supporting staff schedules and assist in the strategic planning and budgeting for the taproom.

The ideal candidate has a passion for craft beer, is extremely organized, is detail oriented, and is able to work independently and make quick decisions. Additionally, the Taproom Manager is expected to interact with patrons, event clients and an outgoing personality is imperative.  A strong desire to collaboratively lead the direction of the taproom experience while staying up to date on market and industry trends and opportunities is essential.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist in hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising the team
  • Address guest issues/concerns and maintain a positive guest experience.
  • Independently set employee schedules each week.
  • Help define, modify, and enforce SOPs.
  • Create and maintain tap room experience by holding employees accountable and maintaining standards (i.e, cleanliness, temperature, music, conduct, vibe)
  • Keeping and reporting inventory of merchandise, as needed.
  • Inventory and purchasing of consumables (i.e., cups, snacks, utensils, glassware).
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director on our social media presence (Instagram and Facebook).
  • Assist with vendor-supported on-site and off-site event execution (parties, rehearsal dinners, beer festivals, etc.).
  • Coordinate and plan all reservations with customers in the taproom.
  • Regularly innovate ways to improve and market the taproom, as well as implementation of those plans.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to create, plan, and execute Taproom Events to keep the excitement going for increased sales and a busy, fun taproom.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director in creating and maintaining events on Facebook, Idiom’s website, and LinkTree.
  • Communicate with guests, send marketing emails to distribution lists and respond to phone/email messages.
  • Administer the VIP program, including; communication, coordination of events and general issues/concerns.
  • Maintain POS system and menu, including; tablet upkeep, updates, creating discounts and adding/editing items.
  • Maintain beer inventory and website menu availability.
  • Participate in beer sensory panels (QA/QC).
  • Occasional decoration during the holiday seasons.

Required Skill Set:

  • Sales and/or marketing experience in a retail environment, establishing relationships and working with customers.
  • Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word, and Excel a plus.
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational ability, high attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, move, and handle up to 60 pounds frequently to stock merchandise as well as load/unload customer orders.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, reach, lift, and climb.

Prep/Line Cooks (Full Time)

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Line Cooks to join our high-volume pizza and sandwich kitchen in our dynamic craft brewery. As a Line Cook, you will play a crucial role in preparing and delivering delicious pizzas, sandwiches, and other menu items while upholding the culinary standards and service quality of our craft brewery.

This position is part-time or full-time, and demands open availability to work nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Skillfully prepare and assemble a variety of pizza and sandwich menu items, adhering to established recipes and quality standards. This includes pizza dough handling, sauce preparation, and sandwich construction.
  • Cooking: Execute cooking tasks with precision, ensuring that each order is cooked to perfection and ready for prompt service during busy shifts.
  • Station Management: Maintain and organize your designated cooking station, ensuring all ingredients and equipment are readily available for smooth service flow.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation meet or exceed customer expectations. Perform regular quality checks on food items.
  • Speed and Efficiency: Work efficiently during peak hours to meet customer demand while upholding food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with fellow kitchen staff, such as kitchen managers, lead cooks, and other line cooks, to ensure a coordinated and efficient kitchen operation.
  • Cleanliness and Sanitation: Adhere to food safety and hygiene guidelines, keeping your station and workspace clean and organized. Assist in overall kitchen cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Menu Knowledge: Stay updated on the menu offerings, including specials and seasonal items, and be prepared to answer customer inquiries.
  • Customer Engagement: Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner, addressing any concerns or special requests related to food preparation.
  • Compliance: Follow health and safety regulations, food handling procedures, and brewery policies to maintain a safe and compliant kitchen environment.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Line Cook in a high-volume kitchen, preferably with expertise in pizza and sandwich preparation.
  • Basic culinary training or relevant certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Ability to work efficiently and remain calm under pressure.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using kitchen equipment and tools.
  • Enthusiasm for creating delicious food and being part of a fast-paced kitchen team.

Brewhouse Cellar Technician (Part Time)

We are expanding our brewing operations team and are looking for a Cellar Technician who is detail-oriented and has a passion for producing quality beer!

We are a team-centric brewery so some days you may be washing kegs and scrubbing tanks and the next you may be assisting with packaging 60 or more BBL of product for our taproom and distribution channels.

We operate a 7 BBL brewery/taproom on Carroll Creek in Frederick, MD.  We also operate a 10,000 square foot production facility with 300+ BBL of brewhouse capacity. We focus on IPAs, sours, porters and stouts, amongst other classic styles. We also throw a number of experimental and barrel-aged (both sour and traditional) brews into the mix too. We pride ourselves on balanced beer and a constantly rotating selection of handcrafted brews.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Management of fermentation
  • Cellaring (dry hops, fruit additions, etc.)
  • Packaging (kegs, bottles and cans)
  • Cleaning (a lot of cleaning)
  • Raw materials tracking and handling
  • Post-production inventory and tracking
  • Representing the brewery at festivals
  • Other duties as assigned

Beertender (Full Time)

Do you love CRAFT BEER?!  Pouring, learning, and educating?  Do you thrive in CUSTOMER SERVICE?!  Smiling and making others smile around you?  Are you down with HARD WORK?!  Cleaning, lifting kegs, and organization?  If you said YES to all of the above, then you are who we are looking for to join our amazing team at Idiom!  A passion for customer service, craft beer, and the community are all a must for this position.  Positive attitudes and team player mentality are how we thrive here at Idiom.  We are looking for applicants with at least 1 year of bartending experience and a base knowledge of beer.  However, a love of beer and the willingness to learn is more important than base knowledge.

This position is full-time, and demands open availability to work nights and weekends.
